Ryan Maccagnan, Mountain Ridge Middle School Seventh Grader, bounced his way to a gold medal at the World Age Group Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia last month.
Alongside his partner, Tomas Minc from Maryland, the duo competed against 22 different countries and 28 teams in the synchronized trampoline event for 13 – 14-year-olds.
“It was a fairytale come true. Both boys are amazing athletes and hit an almost perfect routine at the perfect time,” said Michele Maccagnan, Ryan’s Mom.
This is not the first time Ryan has participated in this competition. Ryan finished third in the double mini trampoline event for 11 – 12-year-olds last year in Sofia, Bulgaria. Next year, he hopes to make the World Age Group Competition in Tokyo.
“Representing his country and bringing home the gold was his favorite, although he always enjoys the opportunity to travel and visit other countries,” said Maccagnan. “He was not, however, fond of Russian cuisine, including beets.”
Ryan has been competing for five years at Stars Gymnastics in Colorado Springs. His ultimate goal is to make the United States Olympic Team in 2024 or 2028.
